Hotel handover should preserve operational context, not only messages

5 min read

A message says what someone remembered to type. A structured handover shows what remains open, what changed and who owns the next action.

The weakness of an informal handover

Messaging applications are fast, familiar and flexible. That is also why they become difficult to govern. Important items sit beside casual discussion, acknowledgements are ambiguous and an unresolved issue can disappear into the history.

A handover is not merely a note. It is a transfer of operational responsibility.

What should survive the shift change

The next team needs to know the issue, its severity, the guest or asset affected, the work already completed, the current owner, the deadline and the evidence required before closure.

Structured handover does not remove human judgement. It ensures the judgement is applied to a complete and visible operating picture.

Handover belongs inside the operating system

When handover sits beside room status, maintenance, arrivals, tasks and guest context, it becomes part of continuous operations rather than a separate communication ritual.
